Gian Durand, the new captain of the Krewe of Oshun, announced her ascendance to the position via a recent Facebook post. Durand, who just months ago reigned as the 2025 Queen of the Krewe of Alla, announced in June that she had joined the Krewe of Oshun. Since then, she has been prominent in the media speaking on behalf of the Krewe in its conflict with Oshun’s 2025 float provider, Jack Rizzuto. Oshun, a predominantly African-American coed krewe, first paraded in 1997, and since then has opened the official Orleans Parish parade calendar on the second Friday before Mardi Gras. The 2026 parade is scheduled to roll on February 6, 2026 at 6 p.m. beginning at Napoleon Avenue and Magazine Street.
